- Metaplanet seeks to strengthen its Bitcoin reserve strategy.

Metaplanet, a Tokyo-listed investment firm, has issued $21 million in zero-interest bonds to acquire Bitcoin. This move was fully subscribed by Evo Fund and reflects Metaplanet’s continued strategy to expand its corporate Bitcoin holdings.
Metaplanet’s Strategic Bond Issuance
Metaplanet has issued $21 million in zero-interest bonds to buy Bitcoin, maintaining its strategy. The firm, led by Simon Gerovich, follows an approach akin to MicroStrategy, aiming to boost its Bitcoin holdings significantly in the Asian market.
The bonds were purchased entirely by Evo Fund, demonstrating confidence in Metaplanet’s objectives. Funds raised will purchase around 195 BTC at current prices. Metaplanet’s holdings now exceed 7,800 BTC, inching closer to its target of 10,000 BTC by 2025. Metaplanet’s official statement confirms, “Company press releases and filings confirm the allocation of all raised funds exclusively for further Bitcoin acquisition.”
Market Impact and Future Implications
The issuance impacts the markets by strengthening Bitcoin’s position as a corporate asset. Metaplanet’s stock has surged, indicating positive investor response to its strategy. This action reaffirms growing institutional interest in cryptocurrency reserves. As Simon Gerovich, Representative Director of Metaplanet, mentioned, “The issuance of these bonds is expected to have a minimal impact on the Company’s consolidated financial results for the fiscal year ending December 2025. If any material impact on our financial performance or other matters arises, we will provide an update promptly.”
Such initiatives may influence increased interest in Bitcoin among other companies, creating potential regulatory considerations. This strategy emulates MicroStrategy’s success, suggesting possible financial and market implications as others adopt similar treasury strategies.
The trajectory set by Metaplanet could lead to broader acceptance of Bitcoin as a primary corporate reserve asset. Historical trends suggest an upward shift in companies opting for Bitcoin investments, potentially affecting traditional investment portfolios.
