- Integrating Bitcoin liquidity into Sui’s ecosystem.
- Enhances BTC’s utility in DeFi environments.

This collaboration reshapes Bitcoin’s role in DeFi, expanding financial opportunities and increasing its utility beyond being a store of value.
Bitlayer, a project using BitVM technology within the Bitcoin ecosystem, has teamed up with Sui, a high-performance public blockchain platform. The partnership aims to implement the BitVM Bridge to enhance Bitcoin’s liquidity in the DeFi space. Co-founder Charlie Hu emphasizes:
“While Bitcoin’s dominance as a store of value is unmatched, its utility in DeFi remains largely untapped. By integrating Bitcoin’s liquidity into Sui’s ecosystem, Peg-BTC (YBTC) empowers users to earn yield while maintaining direct exposure to BTC’s value, marking a paradigm shift for Bitcoin in the DeFi space.”
Meanwhile, Abiodun from Sui highlights the bridge’s role in enabling new Bitcoin holder experiences. This development allows Bitcoin holders to explore diverse DeFi scenarios on the Sui network. BTC assets now account for over 10% of the Sui ecosystem’s total value. Furthermore, the financial landscape sees over 587 BTC flowing into Sui since February 2025, indicating strong market interest and participation.
Analysts anticipate increased financial flexibility as users engage with Bitcoin-backed assets in DeFi through technological innovations such as Peg-BTC. Several industry experts predict this partnership will set precedents for future integrations across blockchain networks.
