Paraguayan police foiled an attempted theft of crypto mining equipment, targeting the Teratech SA facility near the Itaipu dam. Three Chinese nationals were deported, while a Paraguayan suspect was detained. It followed rising concerns about equipment theft motivated by the region’s hydroelectric power.

“The men had no entry records in Paraguay. Authorities suspect they entered the country illegally through Brazil or Bolivia, with help from others,” said Irene Rolón, Prosecutor, Paraguay.

The incident affected crypto mining operations, not digital assets. Authorities warned mining farms in energy-rich areas to update their security practices. Paraguay’s hydroelectric power continues to attract both legal and illegal crypto mining, necessitating enhanced oversight.
