Binance has completed its 37th quarterly BNB burn, continuing the exchange’s long-running program of permanently removing BNB tokens from circulation. The burn reduces the total supply of BNB, the native token of Binance and the BNB Chain network, as part of a scheduled deflationary mechanism the exchange has run since 2017.
What the BNB Burn Program Does
A token burn means exactly what it sounds like: tokens are sent to a wallet address that nobody controls, making them permanently inaccessible. Those tokens are gone from the circulating supply forever. For related coverage, see Hyperliquid Policy Center urges five SEC crypto rule changes.
Binance runs this process every quarter. Each burn removes a portion of BNB tokens, gradually reducing the total supply over time. The goal is to work toward a long-term target of 100 million BNB in total supply, down from the original 200 million tokens created at launch. The 37th burn marks another step in that ongoing reduction. Binance has been consistent with this schedule, completing burns roughly every three months without interruption across nearly a decade of operation.
How the Burn Amount Is Calculated
Binance uses an auto-burn formula to determine how many BNB tokens are destroyed each quarter. The calculation takes into account the current BNB price and the total number of blocks produced on the BNB Chain during that quarter.
This matters because it means the burn amount is not fixed. When BNB’s price is lower, more tokens are burned. When the price is higher, fewer tokens are burned. The formula is designed to keep the economic impact of each burn roughly consistent over time, regardless of short-term price swings.
Separate from the quarterly auto-burn, Binance also runs a real-time mechanism called the BEP-95 burn, which permanently destroys a small portion of the gas fees paid on BNB Chain with every transaction. Both mechanisms work together to reduce supply continuously.
What This Means for BNB Holders
A smaller circulating supply does not guarantee a price increase. Supply reduction is one of many factors that affect a token’s market value. Demand, broader market conditions, platform usage, and investor sentiment all play a role.
What the burn does provide is a transparent, verifiable record of supply reduction. Anyone can check the BscScan block explorer to confirm burn transactions on-chain. The mechanics are public and auditable, which is meaningful for holders who want to understand what they own.
For people new to crypto, this kind of supply management is roughly analogous to a company buying back its own shares. Fewer tokens in circulation means each remaining token represents a larger share of the total supply. Whether that translates to a higher price depends on whether demand stays steady or grows alongside the supply reduction.
Binance’s Broader Context
The BNB burn program runs independently of Binance’s other business and regulatory activities. The exchange has faced significant scrutiny in recent years, including ongoing DOJ review of its 2023 settlement compliance, which is separate from the token burn mechanics.
BNB Chain itself continues to operate as one of the larger smart-contract networks by transaction volume. The chain’s activity feeds directly into the BEP-95 burn mechanism, meaning higher network usage leads to more tokens being destroyed in real time between quarterly burns.
For holders watching supply trends, the key figures to track are the total amount burned in each quarterly announcement, the running cumulative total burned since the program began, and the remaining supply relative to the 100 million token target. Binance publishes these details alongside each official burn announcement.
What to Watch Next
The next quarterly burn will follow in approximately three months. Until then, the BEP-95 mechanism continues to burn small amounts of BNB with each block on BNB Chain, meaning supply reduction is an ongoing process rather than a once-per-quarter event.
Readers who want to track BNB’s circulating supply in real time can monitor CoinGecko’s BNB page, which updates supply figures as burns are confirmed on-chain. The DeFiLlama BSC dashboard also tracks total value locked on BNB Chain, which reflects how actively the network is being used between burns.
Binance has also been active on other fronts, including participating in international efforts to crack down on crypto scams and navigating ongoing regulatory reviews. The burn program itself remains a separate, protocol-level mechanism that continues regardless of those developments.
The practical takeaway for a BNB holder or someone considering buying BNB: the burn confirms that Binance is maintaining its scheduled supply reduction program. It is one data point in a larger picture that includes network activity, exchange health, and broader market conditions. No single quarterly burn determines price direction on its own.
