Input Output, the blockchain research company behind the Cardano network, has warned Cardano users after a YouTube channel was hijacked. Anyone who follows Cardano’s official video content should treat any recent posts from the compromised channel with caution until Input Output confirms the channel is secure.
What Happened and Why It Matters
A YouTube channel connected to Input Output was taken over by an unauthorized party. Input Output responded by alerting the Cardano community to the incident and advising users not to trust content posted during the compromise. When a recognized organization’s social media or video channel is taken over, bad actors often use it to run fake promotions. These typically ask viewers to send cryptocurrency in exchange for a promised larger return, a promise that is never honored. This is a common tactic, and similar social engineering schemes have also been used to deliver malware disguised as legitimate crypto tools. The safest response is to pause, verify, and avoid acting on anything published from a channel during a period of suspected compromise. For related coverage, see FCA Says Offshore Crypto Firms Serving UK Customers May Need Authorization.
How to Verify Information and Stay Safe
Input Output communicates through multiple official channels. Before acting on any Cardano-related announcement, check that the same information appears across Input Output’s official website and verified social media accounts.
Never share your wallet’s recovery phrase or private keys in response to a video, social media post, or message, regardless of how official it appears. Wallet compromises frequently begin with users handing over credentials in response to convincing but fraudulent requests, not with any technical breach of the wallet itself.
If you see a promotion offering to multiply your ADA, the native token of the Cardano network, treat it as a scam. Legitimate projects do not run giveaways that require you to send funds first. Report suspected impersonation using YouTube’s built-in reporting tools so the platform can act quickly.
Stay alert to follow-up phishing attempts. After a high-profile channel hijack, scammers sometimes send direct messages or post in community forums pretending to be support staff. Cardano’s official community moderators will never ask for your private keys or recovery phrase.
