As Binance reopens Bitcoin withdrawals following a reported $6.3 billion hack, scammers are moving fast. Binance has warned users to watch out for two types of fraud spreading online: fake “priority access” offers and bogus fund-recovery services. Both are designed to steal from people who are already worried about their money.
Binance flags fake priority-access and recovery offers
When a major exchange pauses and then restores withdrawals, users get anxious. That anxiety creates an opening for fraudsters. After Binance reopened Bitcoin withdrawals in the wake of the reported hack, scammers began targeting users with two specific pitches. For related coverage, see Crypto Novembers: FTX, Binance, Trump and Bitcoin's Run.
The first pitch is “priority access.” Fraudsters contact users claiming they can move their withdrawal to the front of the queue, for a fee or in exchange for login credentials. The second pitch is “recovery assistance.” Here, scammers impersonate Binance support staff and offer to help retrieve stolen or frozen funds, asking for sensitive information to “verify” the account.
Neither of these services exists. Binance does not sell queue priority to individual users, and it does not contact customers out of the blue to offer recovery help. According to reporting by CryptoSlate, Binance has specifically warned that a second wave of opportunistic theft is targeting users as the hack-recovery process continues.
The timing matters. When Binance froze roughly $3 billion in assets linked to the hack, many users were left uncertain about their balances and withdrawal timelines. Scammers exploit that uncertainty by presenting themselves as a shortcut to resolution.
How to spot an impersonation or recovery scam
These scams follow a recognizable pattern. Knowing the warning signs can stop an attack before it starts.
The most reliable red flag is an unsolicited message. If someone contacts you first, whether by email, Telegram, Discord, or social media, claiming to be Binance support, treat it as suspicious. Binance does not cold-call or cold-message users to offer help.
Watch out for requests that ask you to share any of the following: your account password, a one-time verification code (OTP), your seed phrase or private key, or a payment to “unlock” your account or speed up a withdrawal. Legitimate exchange support will never ask for these things.
Fake contact often looks convincing. Scammers create email addresses, Telegram handles, and websites that closely mimic Binance’s official branding. A sender address like “[email protected]” is not the same as an official Binance domain. Always check carefully.
A similar pattern played out with the Solana Seeker seed-phrase scam, where a fake app used official-looking branding to steal users’ recovery phrases. The method is the same: create urgency, mimic legitimacy, and ask for credentials.
Steps Binance users can take to protect their accounts
If you have funds on Binance and are concerned about your withdrawal access, go directly to the official Binance website or mobile app. Do not use links from emails, social posts, or messages you did not initiate yourself.
Inside the Binance app, navigate to your account security settings. Check that two-factor authentication (a second layer of verification beyond your password) is enabled. Review any linked devices or active sessions and remove any you do not recognize.
If someone has already contacted you claiming to be Binance support, stop responding. Do not send any money, share any codes, or click any links they send. Save screenshots of the conversation, then report the attempt through Binance’s official support page directly from the app or the verified website.
The backdrop to all of this is serious. The FBI has linked the Binance hack to North Korea, and with $6.3 billion at stake, the pressure on users is real. That pressure is exactly what scammers count on.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Two scam themes to know: “Priority access” offers and “fund recovery” services are both fraudulent. Binance does not offer either through unsolicited contact.
- Verify before you trust: Any message about your Binance account should be checked by logging into the official app or website independently, never by clicking a link in the message itself.
- Use official channels only: Binance support is available through the in-app help center and the verified Binance website. If someone reaches out to you first, it is not Binance.
