Bitcoin Core merges privacy fix into 32.x branch; 31.x backport remains open
Bitcoin Core has merged a privacy fix into its 32.x code branch. The matching 31.x update remains open, so the two version lines have different statuses.
What the privacy fix means for the 32.x branch
CryptoSlate reported that the privacy fix reached Bitcoin Core’s 32.x code. A code branch is a separate line of work, much like two editions of the same manual. For related coverage, see HashKey Capital Bitcoin Hashrate Fund With BITMAIN.
The confirmed fact is narrow: the change was merged into 32.x. The available evidence does not describe the fix’s code behavior or claim a specific outcome for users. For related coverage, see Bitcoin Falls Below $81,000 as Crypto Liquidations Top $1 Billion.
That distinction matters because a merge records where developers accepted a change. It does not show that every user received it through a release or update. Why the 31.x backport remains open
The same report says the 31.x backport remains open. A backport means adapting an existing change for an older version line. For related coverage, see Bitcoin ETFs Lose $480M as Ethereum Outflows Hit 9-Month High.
So the two statuses are different. The 32.x merge is complete, while the 31.x backport is still pending.
The available report gives no completion date or reason for the older-line work remaining open. Readers should treat “open” as a current status, not as a timetable or judgment about the fix.
CoinLineup previously reported on a Bitcoin Core 31.1rc1 privacy issue. That earlier coverage is background only; the current report still lists the backport as open.
What the branch split means for Bitcoin users and watchers
For people following Bitcoin Core, the useful question is which version line a change belongs to. The documented answer is clear: the privacy fix is in 32.x, while the 31.x adaptation remains open.
The report confirms a 32.x merge and an unfinished 31.x backport. For a regular holder, that is a software-development update, not evidence that you must act today.
Keep the completed merge separate from the open backport when reading later release notes. The reported branch statuses do not establish a user-action deadline.
The practical takeaway is simple: check the version line before treating a reported merge as broadly available. The reported split shows completed work in the newer branch and unfinished backport work in the older line.
Anyone evaluating later updates can compare release material with the Bitcoin Core pull-request listings. That keeps the confirmed merge separate from claims the limited evidence does not establish.
