Ethereum Name Service (ENS), the protocol that lets people replace long wallet addresses with readable names like “yourname.eth”, is asking its decentralized community to approve the launch of ENSv2 on Ethereum. The proposal puts a significant upgrade decision in the hands of ENS token holders through the project’s on-chain governance process.
Key Takeaways
- ENS has submitted a proposal to its DAO requesting approval to launch ENSv2 on Ethereum.
- The launch has not been confirmed; it depends on the outcome of the governance vote.
- ENS token holders participate in the DAO (a Decentralized Autonomous Organization, meaning a community that votes on decisions using crypto tokens rather than a board of directors).
What ENS Is Asking Its DAO to Approve
ENS governs itself through a DAO, where holders of the ENS token vote on major protocol changes. Any significant upgrade, including a new version of the core naming system, requires community approval before it can move forward. The current proposal asks DAO members to greenlight the ENSv2 launch on Ethereum. Because the vote has not yet concluded, ENSv2 is not a confirmed deployment; it is a governance decision in progress. Readers can follow the discussion directly on the ENS governance forum, where proposals are debated before moving to a formal on-chain vote. ENS operates on Ethereum, the blockchain network that also underpins a wide range of decentralized applications. Interest in Ethereum-based protocols has grown alongside broader ecosystem activity, as seen in coverage of BlackRock’s staking Ethereum ETF and its inflows. What a Potential ENSv2 Launch on Ethereum Means Next
If the DAO votes in favor, ENSv2 would move toward deployment on Ethereum. If it votes against, or if the proposal does not reach the required participation threshold, the launch would not proceed under the current proposal.
The governance process itself mirrors how other crypto projects handle major decisions. Earlier this year, several crypto firms navigated regulatory approval processes for new structures, similar in principle to how ENS routes major changes through its token-holder community rather than a central authority, as seen in news about three crypto firms receiving conditional federal trust-bank approval.
For anyone holding ENS tokens, the most direct next step is to check the ENS governance forum for the proposal’s current status and any published timeline for the formal vote. For those simply watching the space, the key signal to wait for is an official announcement confirming whether the DAO has approved, rejected, or deferred the ENSv2 launch.
Until the vote concludes, no details about ENSv2’s scope, technical changes, or launch date should be treated as settled. Follow official ENS channels for confirmed updates rather than speculation about the proposal’s outcome.
